Formerly in the collection of Sir Edward Rhodes, proprietor of the Dacca Mills in Manchester who received his knighthood for his services during the Great War to the cotton industry and overseas trade.
His son, the vendor's Grandfather, Edward Leyland Rhodes served in the Great War from 3rd October 1914 - 1st August 1917. He was a 2nd Lieutenant for 16th (1st City) Battalion Manchester Regiment. Edward reputedly led the Battalion in the Battle of the Somme.
