Fine neoclassical style statuary marble chimneypiece or fireplace surround, probably George III period, circa 1790, of Carrara and Sienna marble, the moulded mantel over reeded frieze centred by a tablet carved with a bowl of flowers between vines, the uprights headed by urns above ribbons, laurel and flowers, internal dimensions 114cm wide x 103cm high, externally 167cm wide (mantel) x 131cm high, together with plinth/hearth 46cm x 155cm
Estate of the late Iann Barron, Barrow Court, but probably purchased for 17 The Circus, Bath (once the home of the artist Thomas Gainsborough). Sold with original receipt for £17,000 stating "18th Century marble fireplace... circa 1780", November 1987.
