Bristol has a thriving cultural scene which dates back centuries – its success as a major port and its diverse population give a cosmopolitan feel, reflected in the visual arts. Clevedon Salerooms sell a wide variety of art from the 16th to 21st centuries, ranging from the Barkers of Bath to the ‘Bristol Savages’ to Banksy!
Clevedon Salerooms' Mark Huddleston studied History of Art at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and has almost twenty-five years' experience of the national art market. Undertaking further research and consultation where necessary, recent successes include a landscape painting initially believed to have been English School, but fully researched and identified as a work by the sought-after Chinese artist Teng-Hiok Chiu. An initial expectation of low hundreds turned into £3,500, with a resulting happy vendor.
