19th century Turkish Kilij, the mameluke hilt of characteristic form with horn grips (one damaged but missing the quillon block and quillons), 71cm heavy sharply curved fullered with reinforced back edge, the forte is decorated with gold koftgari work including a panel of calligraphy with further calligraphy on the back edge and on the swollen end of the blade (Yelman), in its velvet-covered wooden scabbard, but along the back to take the curvature of the blade, with a central leather band, 86cm long overall
