The present lot is illustrated in Moore, A.J. ‘The Clockmakers of Bristol 1650-1900’ p. 313, where it is suggested that it may have been used for the timing and regulating of watches. Thomas Pierce (II) is noted by Moore as working from 48 Wine Street, Bristol 1739-45 then from 57 Corn Street by 1761.
