Formerly the property of Sidney John Alexander Churchill MVO, (1862-1921), as pictured in the last image (scan of original image retained by the family), and thence by descent.
In 1880, Sidney Churchill joined the Persian Telegraph Department of the Indian Civil Service, serving as British Consul in Persia (1886-94). During this entire 14-year period, Churchill collected Middle Eastern manuscripts for the British Museum and objets d'art for the Victoria & Albert Museum.
