Rare mid 17th century English marquetry-inlaid box-top chest, possibly South West, having a lockable hinged moulded rectangular yew-wood top enclosing a deep well, the inverted breakfront charmingly inlaid (possibly on princes wood) with mother-of-pearl centred scrollwork over a frieze with four pairs of lion and unicorn supporters and two dragons between two further unicorns, in turn over two deep drawers inlaid with pairs of lions and putto masks between birds and female terms, the lower frieze with eight hunting dogs and three wild boar, the sides having ebony and boxwood strung panels over scroll-carved conjoined twin arcades, raised on cup-and-cover front supports to a 'pot-board' plinth base, 132cm x 60cm x 124cm high
