Raoul Francois Larche, (1860-1912) - 'Vingt Ans', a cast patinated bronze figure of a young warrior dressed in a loincloth and holding a drawn sword, on naturalistic mound base with scabbard at his feet, signed 'Raoul LARCHE' in the cast to one edge, foundry stamp verso 'SIOT PARIS 485G', 51.5cm high
Son of the sculptor Guillaume Larche, Raoul attended the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, and was then admitted to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a pupil of François Jouffroy, Auguste Dumont, Alexandre Falguière, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Eugène Delaplanche. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes in Paris from 1884 until 1911. In 1886, he won the second Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture.
