Morph breaks record at Clevedon Salerooms

Morph went under the hammer and sold for a record £1,100, the highest amount he has raised at a public auction.

He may only be small but Morph – the little plasticine man beloved of a generation of children – caused a big stir when he was offered for sale at Clevedon Salserooms’ Autumn Fine Art sale on September 12th.  The diminutive but instantly recognisable figure, which had been modelled by his creator Aardman co-founder Peter Lord and was offered with a handwritten note of authenticity, had been donated to St. Peter’s Hospice. Clevedon Salerooms have a well-established relationship with St. Peter’s and are always happy to help them raise money for their valuable work, selling donations without the usual seller’s costs.

The buyer is local and Bristol based and there was extensive interest on the telephone, and online and included 10 commission bidders.

“From the moment he appeared almost 50 years ago, the public took Morph to their hearts and this record-breaking result shows that the little plasticine man has lost none of his appeal," says Chris Yeo Senior Valuer Clevedon Salerooms, BBC Antiques Roadshow Expert. "We are delighted to have been able to help local charity St Peter’s Hospice raise funds for the invaluable care and support they give.”
